Rebecca McClellan for Arapahoe County Commission

About Rebecca

First elected to council in 2005, Rebecca McClellan was selected by her council peers to serve as Centennial's Mayor Pro Tem.  She's represented Centennial at the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C, where she trained in economic development.  McClellan was unanimously selected by leaders across the region to serve as District Secretary for the Colorado Municipal League, where she serves on the Legislative Policy Committee.  Rebecca McClellan has been reelected by Centennial voters for her leadership and integrity.

A former small business owner, Rebecca McClellan supports economic development and job growth, and opposes a Greenwood Village "job tax," or employee head tax.  During McClellan's time on Council, Centennial's lower sales tax rate and business friendly environment has produced jobs with emplyoers like Cochlear, Allosource, and United Launch Alliance, to name a few.  Councilwoman McClellan is proud to be welcoming IKEA into her own district.  She has served on Centennial's investment committee.  She's joined the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce in celebrating openings for local businesses, including the recent ground breaking for Centennial's IKEA, Staples, and Wells Fargo at the Streets at Southglenn, to name a few.

As council liaison to Cherry Creek School District, Rebecca worked with Parent Teacher Organization leaders from the Littleton and Cherry Creek School Districts to deliver a sales tax exemption for school groups.  Councilwoman McClellan has served on the Cherry Creek Community Legislative Network's steering committee, and has served as a PTO volunteer and Destination Imagination coach.  Rebecca is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Cherry Creek, for community leaders in the Cherry Creek School District.  In 2006, Council Member McClellan was especially pleased to celebrate two Blue Ribbon elementary schools in her district: Willow Creek Elementary School, and St. Thomas More Parish School.

Councilwoman McClellan led for the elimination of waste on fuel, paper, and bottled water, saving tax dollars.  She founded a citizen's group and worked to develop frugal, responsible policy options.  Rebecca served on her City's Parks & Open Space Committee, and advocates land banking for open space preservation.  She is a leading voice for better frugality on the proposed Civic Center Park, because the open space funds are still your money, and you should have a say in how it's spent.

Rebecca McClellan worked with Bicycle Colorado to bring us our first Safe Routes to Schools program, cutting traffic and enhancing safety for children walking or biking to school.  She helped to deliver Centennial's first traffic calming program, resulting in improvements for a number of local neighborhoods.

Rebecca believes we should avoid using eminent domain property takings and avoid wasting over $55 million on an underpass into a residential area, by focusing tax dollars on the Arapahoe Road and I-25 interchange itself, where the fix is needed.

Married 16 years, Rebecca and Jim have two children who attend Cherry Creek schools.  Rebecca McClellan has extensive experience in the field of residential real estate, and founded, ran and sold a successful small business.  She holds a B.A. from San Diego State University.  A genealogist with colonial roots, she is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Rebecca served as a Key Volunteer for the US Marine Corps during her husband's squadron deployments.  The McClellan family enjoys walking in the trails and open spaces near their Centennial home with their dog, Piper.
